Karavali

Our Story

A kitchen that never left the harbour.

Bunder Road Coal Kitchen

Karavali started in 2014 with one coal tawa and a recipe book that belonged to our cook's grandmother in Udupi. There was no investor, no consultant, no test kitchen — just a family that knew exactly how ghee roast was supposed to taste, and a conviction that the city deserved to taste it too.

Everything we serve still traces back to that single principle: cook it the way the coast cooks it, or don't serve it at all. That means coal instead of gas. Stone-ground masala instead of powder from a packet. A boat that lands at five in the morning instead of a supplier that delivers on Tuesdays.

We're not trying to reinvent coastal Karnataka food. We're trying to make sure it doesn't disappear — one banana leaf at a time.
